Oriental Lantern Fly (Scamandra castanea) Insect Entomology Specimen Collectors

Scientifically known as Scamandra castanea, this is a unique and eye-catching species that belongs to the genus of planthoppers in the subfamily Aphaeninae. They are mostly of moderate to large size, many with a superficial resemblance to Lepidoptera due to their brilliant and varied coloration. Various genera and species (especially the genera Fulgora and Pyrops) are sometimes referred to as lanternflies or lanthorn flies, though they do not emit light.

Scamandra castanea comes ready for display - it is expertly preserved so you can keep it looking as beautiful as when you first received it for years to come. Please handle with care as preserved specimens can be very fragile.

This gorgeous specimen is an excellent piece for any collector/photographer.
